We Walk with Ghosts

On the trail we often walk,
us lovers and poets
of life and light,
I saw them once.
She with a summer hat
in shade and shadow,
he by her side, eternal.
When she passed me
on the bridge
I was casting stones,
but she was as solitary
as me by then,
missing love as much
and equally unrepentant.
