Night Song

Should the day ever come
when this story fades from the page,
let me discover your margin notes,
your penciled reminders
of nights scented with lavender,
when you sang dilly dilly
in the timbre saved for those you love most.
That will be my keepsake,
pressed forevermore against the fold.
