I am rarely unnerved,
seemingly steady as she goes —
come hell or high water.
It is the rouge wave that
tips me off balance;
The unexpected that
challenges my equilibrium.
Old and salty sea legs.
We’ve seen it all before.
(Or so we like to think.)
Until we’re cut from our mooring
and left adrift in unforeseen.
I keep falling over now.
Gulping for breath that
just yesterday came so confidently.
I fear there is no anchor for this.

Perfect image for your perfect words!
Right? It was exactly what I was looking for!
And yet… remember how unsure things felt back in the teen years. It must be age that makes us think we had more confidence, when it was really less awareness.
Isn’t that the truth!
This is fabulous, Jen.
That line, “Gulping for breath…” Made ME gulp!
Me, too.
Sometimes being shaken up IS good. Usually.
Just don’t remind me when the Fasten Seat Belt sign comes on!
Shaken. Not Stirred. Shaken AND stirred? : )
