Charming Snakes & Kissing Frogs

In moments of stillness,
we size each other up,
I catch my breath
and hold it tightly
so as not to move.
Its heart races.
I watch the pulse
that beats to
the rhythm of
my own — oneness.

A beautiful Eastern Ratsnake crosses the road.

This Eastern Garter was sunning himself on the side of the trail this morning.

These Green Frogs seem to be everywhere and sing to each other all day long!

  1. Those frogs sound like a bunch of real cool rap artists! Where we were in the Berkshires, we had the Hyla Brook kind of frogs that sound like jingle bells.
When it comes to the snakes, you’re a better man than I am, Gunga Din. I’d be outta there so fast it would make somebody’s head swim, mine or the snake’s.
