She told me she was leaving
long before either of us knew.
Each day for weeks,
she called out as I passed—
whispering secrets
and ancient stories.
I heard her – sweet Maple –
casting memories out
on the breath of her family.
And then she was no more.
That same breath
in which she took part
for centuries of days
took her down
took her back
took her home.

Never thought I would get sentimental over an unknown tree, but your words and photos did it!
She was a grand beauty, it’s hard not to be sentimental over her!
So beautiful! The trees are such wisdom keepers and so full of love. Peace
So very true!
What a cool tree! I could spend the whole day staring at this wonder. :-)
I keep going back to sit with her, hoping they haven’t chain-sawed her off the path yet…
Giving Tree 2.
Lovely, Jen.
Thanks! : )
I like how the second image looks like the old tree is using a walking stick for support.
what a great way of seeing that! : )
Wow, haunting.
I was by the tree today – now sawed in half and left askew along the path. I set my palm flat up against her rings and thanked her, one more time.
