Monkey

• • •

It had taken the pastry chef eight hours to construct and decorate her four-foot, three-tiered cake for the competition. The final step was to sit a 12-inch high monkey, intricately detailed with cake and fondant, at the very top of her creation. But, the monkey teetered and wobbled precariously, about to fall at any second. So the chef reworked the cake design, and moved the monkey to a more balanced location at its base. When asked about the decision by one of the judges, the chef replied, “I figured the last thing we needed was a broken monkey.”
