A rune reading a week before my birthday revealed Uruz, the rune of terminations and new beginnings, the rune of passage.
It was quite timely. For me, this is the time of year to set my resolutions—not the standard write more, read more, move more ones I vow each January. No, this birthday month is when I reflect on the year that has passed, and look to the new one with fresh eyes—what will I make different?
Last year, I set down two challenges: stop smoking, start recycling. In each, I was re-committing to the healthier lifestyle I’ve been working at for years. Successful on both accounts, I’ve been wondering: what will I commit to this year?
The rune reading suggested that “the life [I] have been living has outgrown its form” and that it is a time of “positive growth and change.”
(Uh-huh. Anyone who’s been following along knows there’s already been lots of growth and change. Apparently, we’re still going.)
Perhaps as comfort, the rune reading offered up this analogy: “As in nature, this progression consists of five aspects: death, decay, fertilization, gestation, and rebirth.”
Gestation. I like that. Especially since my inclination for this year’s resolutions has been simply to set aside time. Quiet time…to pause. To consider. To meditate. To listen to WHAT COMES NEXT.
The rune interpretation concluded with “Uruz puts you on notice that your soul and the Universe support the new growth.”
I must be on the right path—I even have a cheering section!
